KIRTLINGTON, a parish in the hundred of
PLOUGHLEY, county of OXFORD, 5 miles (E. N. E.) from
Woodstock, containing 697 inhabitants. The living is a
discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry and diocese of
Oxford, rated in the king's books at £11. 9.4., endowed
with £200 private benefaction, and £200 royal bounty,
and in the patronage of the President and Fellows of
St. John's College, Oxford. The church is dedicated to
St. Mary. About twenty children are clothed and educated
at the expense of Sir Henry Dashwood, aided by
a rent-charge of £4. 4. per annum from an unknown
benefactor.
