LAMBERHURST, a parish partly in the hundred of BRENCHLEY-and-HORSEMONDEN, lathe of AYLESFORD, county of KENT, but chiefly in the hundred of LOXFIELD-PELHAM, rape of PEVENSEY, county of SUSSEX, 15 miles (S. W. byS.) from Maidstone, containing 1325 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Rochester, rated in the king's books at £12. 10. 5., and in the patronage of the Dean and Chapter of Rochester. The church is dedicated to St. Mary. Here is a place of worship for Baptists. There were formerly very extensive ironworks in this parish, the ore having been obtained in the neighbourhood: the balustrades of St. Paul's cathedral were cast at these works. Dame Elizabeth Hanby, in 1712, bequeathed a rent-charge of £6, for the instruction of children.
