LANDEWEDNACK, a parish in the hundred of KERRIER, county of CORNWALL, 10 miles (S. S. E.) from .Helston, containing 387 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry of Cornwall, and diocese of Exeter, rated in the king's books at £11. 16. 10., and in the patronage of Vivian Robinson, Esq. The church, dedicated to St. Lanty, has a curious ancient font. There is a place of worship for Wesleyan Methodists. In this parish is the Lizard Point, the southernmost point of land in Great. Britain, whence ships leaving the channel date their departure, and upon which are two lighthouses and a signal station. About a mile from it is Kynan's Cove, one of the most remarkable curiosities on the coast: it is formed of vast projecting rocks overhanging the sea, so as to resemble in one part of it an arched grotto. The Soap rocks, three miles distant, yield the celebrated steatite, formerly in great request among the manufacturers of china.
