LANGTON, a township, joint with Bongate, in the
parish of APPLEBY-ST-MICHAEL, EAST ward, county of
WESTMORLAND, 1 mile (E.) from Appleby, with which
the population is returned. Langton, or Long Town,
was once a populous place, but was almost destroyed by
the Scots, in the reign of Edward II. At Kirkbergh
there was anciently a church.
