LAXTON, or LEXINGTON, a parish in the Southclay division of the wapentake of BASSETLAW, county of NOTTINGHAM, 2 miles (S. S. W.) from Tuxford, containing, with Moorhouse, 615 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Nottingham, and diocese of York, rated in the king's books at £11, and in the patronage of Earl Manvers. The church is dedicated to St. Michael. Forty shillings per annum, being the interest of £40, the bequest of a person unknown, is applied towards the education of children.
