LEAFIELD, a chapelry in the parish of SHIPTON tinder WHICHWOOD, hundred of CHADLINGTON, county of OXFORD, 5 miles (N. W. by N.) from Witney, containing 553 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Oxford, endowed with £800 royal bounty, and £1200 parliamentary grant. The chapel, founded in the reign of Elizabeth, by Sir Henry Upton, and dedicated to St. Michael, has lately received an addition of two hundred and eighty sittings, of which, two hundred and fifty are free, the Incorporated Society for the enlargement of churches and chapels having contributed £250 towards defraying the expense.
