LILBURN (EAST), a township in the parish of EGLINGHAM, northern division of COQUETDALE ward, county of NORTHUMBERLAND, 4 miles (S. E. byE.) from Wooler, containing 97 inhabitants. In 1768, on the removal of a heap of stones, superstitiously believed to have been raised by the devil, and called "the Apronful of .stones," the base and fragments of a cross, with four rows of steps, were discovered beneath.
