LINDSEY, a parish in the hundred of COSFORD, county of SUFFOLK, 4 miles (W. N. W.) from Hadleigh, containing 232 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry of Sudbury, and diocese of Norwich, and in the patronage of the Provost and Fellows of King's College, Cambridge. The church is dedicated to St. Peter. This place -was formerly celebrated for the manufacture of an article which has received the name of "Linsey Woolsey." On a farm, called the Chapel farm, are {he remains of an old chapel, now used as a barn; and on the same estate there is a Danish encampment.
