LITTLETON (HIGH), a parish in the hundred of CHEWTON, county of SOMERSET, 9 miles (S. W. by W.) from Bath, containing, with Hallabrow, 864 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Bath, and diocese of Bath and Wells, rated in the king's books at £7. 7. 8., endowed with £200 private benefaction, £400 royal bounty, and £1400 parliamentary grant. Mr. W. B. Barter and Mrs. Barter were patrons in 1804. The church, dedicated to the Holy Trinity, has been enlarged with one hundred and forty-four additional sittings, of which ninety are free, the Incorporated Society for enlarging churches and chapels having contributed £ 80 towards defraying the expense. There is a place of worship for Wesleyan Methodists. The substratum of the soil of this and the neighbouring parishes is coal, which is worked to a considerable extent.
