LOOSE, a parish in the hundred of MAIDSTONE,
lathe of AYLESFORD, county of KENT, 2 miles (S.-)
from Maidstone, containing 882 inhabitants. The living
is a perpetual curacy, in the peculiar jurisdiction and
patronage of the Archbishop of Canterbury. The
church, dedicated to All Saints, has recently received an
addition of one hundred and thirty-five sittings,: of
which seventy-nine are free, the Incorporated Society for
enlarging churches and chapels having contributed
£100 towards defraying the expense. A stream of
water runs through this parish, which, in the space of
three miles, turns no less -than twelve mills. Here is
a quarry of rag-stone; and in the vicinity are large
plantations of hops.
