MAPLEBECK, a parish in the northern division of the wapentake of THURGARTON, county of NOTTINGHAM, 5 miles (N. by B.) from Southwell, containing 193 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry of Nottingham, and diocese of York, endowed with £400 royal bounty, and £200 parliamentary grant, and in the patronage of the Duke of Newcastle. A hard stone, fit for building, and a durable material for roads, is obtained here. Maplebeck is in the honour of Tutbury, duchy of Lancaster, and within the jurisdiction of a court of pleas held at Tutbttry every third Tuesday, for the recovery of debts under forty shillings.
