MARTHAM, a parish in the western division of the hundred of FLEGG, county of NORFOLK, 6 miles (N.w.) from Caistor, containing 845 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the peculiar jurisdiction and patronage of the Dean and Chapter of Norwich, rated in the king's books at £6. 13. 4. The church is dedicated to St. Mary. There are places of worship for Baptists and Wesleyan Methodists. Christopher Amys, in 1622, bequeathed £112, which, together with a trifling bequest by Robert Bower, in 1622, is applied in teaching poor children.
