MARTON, a parish in the wapentake of WELL, parts of LINDSEY, county of LINCOLN, 5 miles (S. by B.) from Gainsborough, containing 395 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Stow, and diocese of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £4. 13.4., endowed with £600 royal bounty, and in the patronage of the Bishop of Lincoln. The church is dedicated to St. Margaret, There is a place of worship for Wesleyau Methodists. The Roman Tilbridge-lane passes through the parish, which is hounded on the west by the river Trent.
