MARWELL, or MEREWELL, a hamlet in the
parish of CARISBROOKE, liberty of WEST-MEDINA, Isle
of Wight division of the county of SOUTHAMPTON, 1
mile (S.) from Newport. A college of four priests was
founded here, by Henry de Blois, Bishop of Winchester,
and augmented by two of his successors.
