MAWDESLEY, a township in the parish of CROSTON,
hundred of LEYLAND, county palatine of LANCASTER,
7 miles (W. S. W.) from Chorley, containing 833
inhabitants. A school, which has been erected on the
waste by subscription, is endowed with a trifling sum
by Thomas Cook, for a master to teach fifteen children
to read.
