MEER, a parish in the county of the city of LINCOLN, 4 miles (S. S. E.) from Lincoln. The living is a discharged vicarage, with the rectory of Waddington, not rated in the king's books, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Lincoln. The church, which was dedicated to St. John the Baptist, has fallen into ruins. Here was anciently a house for Knights Templars; also an hos- pital, in, or near, Dunston, founded, about 1246, by Simon de Roppele, which, at the suppression of similar establishments, was allowed to continue.
