MELTON (GREAT), a parish in the hundred of HUMBLEYARD, county of NORFOLK, 5 miles (W. g; W.J from Norwich, containing 386 inhabitants. The living comprises the united rectories of All Saints and St. Mary the Virgin, in the archdeaconry of Norfolk, and diocese of Norwich, each rated in the king's books at £6. 13. 4., and in the patronage of the Master and Fellows of Caius College, Cambridge. The church is dedicated to the Virgin Mary; the tower was built in 1440. The old church of All Saints, which stood in the same churchyard, was taken down in the 12th year of the reign of Queen Anne.
