MEOPHAM, a parish in the hundred of TOLTINGTROUGH, lathe of AYLESFORD, county of KENT, 7 miles (W. by S.) from Rochester, containing 833 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage, in the peculiar jurisdiction and patronage of the Archbishop of Canterbury, rated in the king's books at £16. 3.4. The church, dedicated to St. John the Baptist, is in the decorated style of English architecture: it was built, in 1396, by Archbishop Courtenay, who likewise founded four almshouses near it for the poor.
