MERIDEN, a parish in the Solihull division of the hundred of HEMLINGFORD, county of WARWICK, 6i miles (W. N.W.) from Coventry, containing 927 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Coventry, and diocese of Lichfield and Coventry, rated in the king's books at £5. 12. The Earl of Aylesford was patron in 1816. The church dedicated to St. Lawrence, has recently received an addition of two hundred and twenty-five sittings, of which one hundred and eighty-two are free, the Incorporated Society for the enlargement of churches and chapels having contributed £ 150 towards defraying the expense.
