MEWAN (ST.), a parish in the eastern division of the hundred of POWDER, county of CORNWALL, 1 mile (W. by S.) from St. Austell, containing 1174 inhabitants. The Living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Cornwall, and diocese of Exeter, rated in the king's books at £ 10. The Rev. William Hocker was patron in 1801. The church is dedicated to St. Mcwan. At Polgooth, which is partly in this parish, is a celebrated tin mine.
