MICHAEL-CHURCH-ESKLEY, a parish in the hundred of EWYASLACY, county of HEREFORD, 10 miles (S. E.) from Hay, containing 424 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry of Brecon, and diocese of St. David's, endowed with £200 private benefaction, and £600 royal bounty, and in the patronage of the Bishop of Hereford. The church is dedicated to St, Michael. The river Eskley runs through the parish. A few of the inhabitants are employed in the manufacture of woollen goods. A. free school has been endowed, by Mrs. Thomas, with lands now producing an annual income .of £30, for teaching four poor children of this parish, four of Crasswall, four of Llanveynoe, and'four of Peterchurch.
