MICHAELSTOW, a parish in the hundred of LESNEWTH, county of CORNWALL, 3 miles (S..W. by S.) from Canielford, containing 216 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry of Cornwall, and diocese of Exeter, rated in the king's books at £ 10.13.9, and in the patronage of the King, as Duke of Cornwall. The church is dedicated to St. Michael. The parish is bounded on the east by the river Camel. At Helsbury are the mount and other earth-works of an ancient castle, called the Beacon.
