MILDENHALL, a parish in the hundred of LEY, county of WILTS, 1 mile (E. N. E.) from Marlborough, containing 414 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Wilts, and diocese of Salisbury, rated in the king's books at £17. 8. 9. and in the patronage of the Executors of the late Rev Richard Pococke. The church, dedicated to St. John the Baptist, was repaired by the Rev. Charles Francis, late i-ector, at a considerable expense; he also built and endowed a " Protestant" free school, for the education of poor children. There is a place of worship for Wesleyan Methodists. On the right of the London road leading from the forest to Marlborough are slight traces of the ancient Roman station Cunetio; where many Roman coins, tesselated pavements, &c., have been discovered.
