MILSTEAD, a parish in the hundred of MILTON, lathe of SCRAY, county of KENT, 3 miles (S. by W.) from Sittingbourne, containing 191 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Canterbury, rated in the king's books at £8. 15. Sarah T. Patterson was patroness in 1819. The church, dedicated to St. Mary and the Holy Cross, is in the early style of English architecture. There are almshouses for five poor persons. John Wyatt, in 1722, gave land now let for £ 20 a year, for the education of eight poor children of this parish, and the same number of that of Frinsted.
