MONCKTON (BISHOP'S), a chapelry in that part
of the parish of RIPON which is in the liberty of RIPON,
West riding of the county of YORK, 4 miles (S. S. E.)
from Ripon, containing 479 inhabitants. The living is
a perpetual curacy, in the jurisdiction of the peculiar
court of Ripon, belonging to the Archbishop of York;
endowed with £800 royal bounty, and £ 800 parliamentary
grant, and in the patronage of the Dean and Chapter
of Ripon. There is a place of worship for Wesleyan
Methodists.
