MONGEHAM (GREAT), a parish in the hundred of CORNILO, lathe of ST-AUGUSTINE, county of KENT, 2 miles (W.S.W.) from Deal, containing 281 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Canterbury, rated in the king's books at £18. 5., and in the patronage of the Archbishop of Canterbury. The church, dedicated to St. Martin, is a large handsome structure, in the early English style. A market on Thursday, granted by Henry III., has been long disused, but a fair for cattle and pedlary is held on October 29th.
