MUSKHAM (SOUTH), a parish in the northern division of the wapentake of THURGARTON, county of NOTTINGHAM, 2? miles (N.) from Newark, containing, with the hamlet of South Carlton, 278 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the peculiar jurisdiction of the Chapter of the Collegiate Church of Southwell, rated in the king's books at £4, and in the patronage of the Prebendary of South Muskham in the Collegiate Church of Southwell. The church is dedicated to St. Wilfrid. The parish is bounded on the east and south by the river Trent, which is crossed by a bridge leading towards Newark'.
