NEWCHURCH, a parish in the liberty of EAST-MEDINA, Isle of Wight division of the county of SOUTHAMPTON, 4 miles (S. E. by E.) from Newport, containing, with the north and south divisions and the town of Ide, 3945 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Winchester rated in the king's books at £ 12. 6. 8., and in the patronage of the Bishop of Bristol. The church is dedicated to All Saints. Maurice Bockland, in 1755, gave land whereon to build a school-house, and William Bowles bequeathed £500 for its erection and endowment; the annual income, including other bequests, is £7.
