NEWTON, a township in the parish of CHILLINGHAM,
eastern division of GLENDALE ward, county of
NORTHUMBERLAND, 3 miles (B. S. E.) from Wooler,
containing 117 inhabitants. Near the village is an
ancient cross, twelve feet high, called the Hurl Stone.
