NEWTON (EAST), a township in the parish of
ALDBROUGH, middle division of the wapentake of
HOLDERNESS, East riding of the county of YORK, 12
miles (N. E. by E.) from Kingston upon Hull, containing
38 inhabitants. An hospital, in honour of St. Mary
Magdalene, was founded here by William, Earl of
Albemarle, who died in 1179, which, at the dissolution/
possessed a revenue of about £40.
