NINEBANKS, a chapelry in the parish of ALLENDALE, southern division of TINDALE ward, county of NORTHUMBERLAND, 6 miles (N. E.) from Alston- Moor. The population is returned with the parish. The living is a perpetual curacy, annexed to that of Allendale, in the peculiar jurisdiction of the Archbishop of York, endowed with £400 private benefaction. £1000 royal bounty, and £600 parliamentary grant, The chapel was rebuilt and the cemetery enlarged about 1813.
