NORLAND, a township in the parish of HALIFAX,
wapentake of MORLEY, West riding of the county of
YORK, 2 miles (S. W.) from Halifax, containing 1665
inhabitants. On Norland moor is an immense rock,
called the Lad Stone, a name supposed to be derived
from the British word Llad, to slay, and to have been in
some way connected with the sacrifices of the Druids.
