NOSTAL, a township, joint with Hurstwick, in that
part of the parish of WRAGBY which is in the upper
division of the wapentake of OSGOLDCROSS, West
riding of the county of YORK, 4 miles (S. W. by W.)
from Pontefract. The population is returned with
Hurstwick. A priory of Augustine canons, in honour
of St. Owald, king and martyr, was founded here in the
time of William Rufus, by Ilbert de Lacy, the revenue
of which at the dissolution was valued at £606. 9. 3.
