OADBY, a parish in the hundred of GUTHLAXTON, county of LEICESTER, 3 miles (S. E.) from Leicester, containing 856 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Leicester, and diocese of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £8, endowed with £240 private benefaction, and £400 royal bounty, and in the patronage of Miss Wright. The churcn, dedicated to St. Peter, contains some fine specimens or ancient sculpture. There is a place of worship for Baptists.
