OAKFORD, a parish in the hundred of WITHERIDGE, county of DEVON, 3 miles; (W. by S.) from Bampton, containing 474 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Barnstaple, and diocese of Exeter, rated in the king's books at £24. The Bishop of Exeter, by lapse, presented in 1813. The church is dedicated to St. Peter. Gertrude Pyncombe, in 1730, left an annuity of £5 for teaching poor children of the parish.
