OLDCASTLE, a township in the parish of MALPAS, higher division of the hundred of BROXTON, county palatine of CHESTER, 1 mile (S. "W.) from Malpas, containing 93 inhabitants. This place took its name from an ancient castle, which was destroyed before ] 585. A battle was fought here in 1644, between the parliamentarian forces from Nantwich and some of the king's cavalry, in which the latter were defeated, and Colonels Vane and Conyers killed.
