ORLETON, a parish in the hundred of WOLPHY, county of HEREFORD, 6 miles (N. by E.) from Leominster, containing 574 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Hereford, endowed with £400 private benefaction, and £400 royal bounty, and in the patronage of the Governors of Lucton school. The Leominster canal passes through the parish. Courts leet and baron are held in March and October; and the petty sessions for the division take place here. There is a great fair for cattle annually on the 23rd and 24th of April. Blount, the celebrated antiquary, was a native of the parish, and lies buried in the chancel of the church.
