PADBURY, a parish in the hundred of BUCKINGHAM, and county of BUCKINGHAM, 2 miles (S. E. by S.) from Buckingham, containing 618 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Buckingham, and diocese of Lincoln, rated in. the king's books at £6. 13. 4., endowed with £400 parliamentary grant, and in the patronage of the Crown. The church is dedicated to St. Mary. There is a place of worship for Wesleyan Methodists. Padbury is situated on the riv.er Ouse, over which' is a substantial stone bridge, erected in 1742. In July 1643, a skirmish took place here between the, king's troops under Sir Charles Lucas, and a detachment of the parliamentarians commanded by Colonel Middleton, in which the latter were defeated.
