PENHOW, a parish in the lower division of the hundred of CALDICOTT, county of MONMOUTH, 5 miles (E. by S.) from Caerleon, containing 220 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Llandaff, rated in the king's books at £5. 4. 95., and in the patronage of John Cave, Esq. The church is dedicated to St. John the Baptist. There are still some remains of Penhow castle.
