PENHURST, a parish in the hundred of NETHERFIELD, rape of HASTINGS, county of SUSSEX, 3 miles (W. by N.) from Battle, containing 106 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, -with the vicarage of Ashburnham, in the archdeaconry of Lewes, and diocese of Chichester, rated in the king's books at £3. 18. 4., endowed with £200 private benefaction, and £200 royal bounty. The church is principally in the later style of English architecture.
