PEOVER (SUPERIOR), a chapelry in that part of the parish of ROSTHERN which is in the hundred of BUCKLOW, county palatine of CHESTER, 4 miles (S. S; E.) from Nether Knutsford, containing 543 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Chester, and in the patronage of Sir H. Mainwaring, Bart. The church is dedicated to St. Lawrence. A school-house was built about 1730, in which four boys and four girls are taught and clothed for £ 10 a year, the proceeds of certain property bequeathed for the purpose by Charlotte Mainwaring, in 1728.
