PERRANZABULOE, a parish in the hundred of PYDER, county of CORNWALL,. 7 miles (W. N. W.) from St. Michael, containing 1702 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, to which is annexed the perpetual curacy of St. Agnes, in the peculiar jurisdiction and patronage of the Dean and Chapter of Exeter, rated in the king's books at £24. The ancient church was collegiate, for a dean and canons, in the time of Edward the Confessor, and had the privilege of sanctuary, but having been overwhelmed with the sand, another church has been erected, near the village of Lambourn, which was consecrated in 1805. There .are tin, copper, and lead mines in full operation within the parish. At Perran Porth is a fine sandy beach, frequented as a bathing-place, the visitors procuring lodgings in the cottages by the sea-side. The western part of the parish is very populous, being inhabited by miners, who live in detached cottages, thickly scattered over the commons. A fair is held on Easter - Tuesday, sometimes at Millingy, and at other times at Penhallow. St. Perran's well, near Lambourn, which is enclosed by an ancient stone building, is one of those to which the power of working miraculous cures was formerly ascribed. On the downs, about a mile and a half from the same place, is St. Perran's Round, one of the ancient Cornish amphitheatres; there are several other old earth-works within the parish.
