PICKWELL, a parish forming a detached portion of the hundred of GARTREE, being locally in that of Guthlaxton, county of LEICESTER, 5 miles (S. S. E.) from Melton-Mowbray, containing, with the hamlet of Leesthorpe, 167 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Leicester, and diocese of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £16, and in the patronage of Sir G. Noel, Bart. The church is dedicated to All Saints. Dr. William Cave, an eminent church historian, was born here in 1637.
