PILTON, a parish in the hundred of WRANDIKE, county of RUTLAND, 4 miles (N. E. by E.) from Uppingham, containing 66 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry of Northampton, and diocese of Peterborough, rated in the king's books at £4. 17. 3., and in the patronage of Sir Gilbert Heathcote, Bart. The church is dedicated to St. Nicholas. The small river Charter bounds the parish on the north: and limestone is obtained in the southern part of it.
