PITNEY, a parish in the hundred of PITNEY, county
of SOMERSET, 2 miles (W.) from Somerton, containing
301 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, in
the archdeaconry of Wells, and diocese of Bath and
Wells, rated in the king's books at £9. 14. 9. Wm.
Pyne, and J. Williams, Esqrs. were patrons in 1825. The
church is dedicated to St. John the Baptist.
