POORTON (NORTH), a parish in the hundred of
BEAMINSTER-FORUM-and-REDHONE, Bridport division
of the county of DORSET, 5 miles (S. E.) from Beaminster,
containing 89 inhabitants. The living is a
discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry of Dorset,
and diocese of Bristol, rated in the king's books at
£5. 11. 5. T. Banger, Esq. was patron in 1820. The
church is dedicated to St. Mary.
