PORINGLAND, or PORINGLAND-EAST (GREAT), a parish in the hundred of HENSTEAD, county of NORFOLK, 5 miles (S.S.E.) from Norwich, containing, with Little Poringland, 407 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry of Norfolk, and diocese of Norwich, rated in the king's books at £6. 13. 2., and in the patronage of the Duke of Norfolk. The church, dedicated to All Saints, was founded before the Conquest, and the body of it rebuilt about 1432; the windows are decorated with stained glass, particularly one in the chancel, which is in fine preservation, and represents the Salutation.
