PRESTON, a township in the parish of TYNEMOUTH,
eastern division of CASTLE ward, county of
NORTHUMBERLAND, half of a mile (N.) from North
Shields, containing 627 inhabitants. Here were formerly
barracks, which have been converted into dwelling-
houses. There are two breweries and a linen manufactory.
