PRESTWICK, a township in the parish of PONTELAND, western division of CASTLE ward, county of NORTHUMBERLAND, 6 miles (N. W. by N.) from Newcastle upon Tyne, containing 155 inhabitants. Prestwick Carr, an extensive marsh, is, in wet seasons, so completely inundated by the river Pont, as to form one vast lake; but in summer, when the waters retire, it affords excellent pasturage common to the neighbouring townships.
