REAGILL, a hamlet (formerly a chapelry) in the parish of CROSBY-RAVENSWOHTH, WEST ward, county of WESTMORLAND, 3 miles (N. E.) from Shap. The population is returned with the parish. There are no vestiges of the chapel, except in the names of certain enclosures, such as Chapel-Garth, Chapel-Lands, &c. The Rev. Randal Sanderson, in 1733, left £120 for the erection of a free school here, to which the commissioners, on the enclosure of waste lands in 1803, awarded an allotment now let for £25 per annum, for the support of the master, who also receives an annuity of £5, the donation of William Twaytes, Esq.: thirty children are instructed.
